What is the difference between a personal Facebook profile and a page?

A personal profile is great for interacting on a personal social level. However, if you want to promote a business, community or public figure, it is better to set up a Facebook page.  A Facebook page offers many more advantages, including...

1. Facebook insights can give you statistics about your fans such as demographics and which posts are getting the most interactions. 2. You can use tabs such as website links, shop tab or you Tube link tab.
3. You can have an unlimited fan base (profiles limit to 5000).
4. Having a page helps you to promote your Facebook page on your website by adding a ‘like’ box.

How do I set up a Facebook page?

To set up a Facebook page, you will need to log in to your personal Facebook account and click on 'home'.  Then you will see options on the left hand side bar. Click pages.  You will then see a page dashboard, and you can click Create a page.  You will then see a page like this, and you are given a choice of 6 categories.

Think about your category and page title carefully. Once you get over 100 likes on a Facebook page, you cannot change the name of your page. Page names are important for SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) allowing you to be found on search engines such as google.

So, you need to type out the name of your page, and enter some details. Follow the series of questions on facebook. One of the most importnt things to decide for your Facebook page is what image you will use, as this is representative of your brand.
