What is an e-Book?

An e-book is simply an electronic or digital book. It is a full-length publication, just like the book version, but in a digital format, allowing the reader to view the content on a computer, tablet or E-reader.

What are the benefits of e-Books?

In the past view years there has been a huge growth in e-Books, with Amazon and others creating popular e-Readers like the Kindle and apple. Windows and Samsung bringing out tablet computers has made e-Books much more useable and accessible. E-Book devices can store numerous books at a time, so readers don’t have to carry around many books. The devices also have Internet access so you can download a book when you want to read it. Additionally as e-Books are available online anyone can publish their own book.

How to e-book

So you may be at a stage where you have written your own book and short novel, you might want to know how to e-book to pursue a career as an author or you may just like to write as a hobby. Now with the advancements in e-Books you can digitally publish your work. So, here's how to e-book...

The first thing you need to do is make sure your material is in a suitable format as the size of your document is key.

  • Go onto page set up and alter your work to either 6 x 9 or 5 1/2 by 8 ½
  • Also change your margins so that they are between 0.5-1 inch.
    If you are a mac user then download an eBook template from apple.
  • Another thing to consider is your font and size try not to use anything to elaborate, as you need your work to look like a book.
  • Also remember pages numbers and titles.

Next you will need to convert your file into PDF. You can download software to do this for free (Adobe have free software) mac users will already have software, which you will find in applications. To publish simple upload to a file hosting service (examples being Scribed and tiny load)

Before you publish your e-Book

A few tips before you decide to publish is have a look at some already published work in your genre or area as it will give you an idea of what attracts readers. Also make sure your work is properly edited, once you have published its is out there for all to read.
